If you're able to work with a house designer or architect to create a home that is perfectly suited to your own tastes and preferences, you want to ensure that you don't overlook any potential features for that home. Some upscale and luxury features can ensure your home is perfect for you and your family and is a space you'll love for years to come. Note a few of those features you'll want to consider including in your new home design, and discuss these with your architect so he or she can include them in their drawings and plans.

Indoor/outdoor pool

If you want to include a pool in your home design, consider having it built so that a section of it actually flows into a portion of the home. Your builder would need to simply create an addition to the home for the indoor section of the pool, lining the space with pool tile, and then would keep one wall of that section open so the pool can then flow into the outdoor area. This indoor area allows you to use your pool more often throughout the year, and can provide shade from very hot summer sun while still allowing you to enjoy the water.

Dumbwaiter

A dumbwaiter is like a small elevator shaft that is used to carry items, most often trays of food, from one floor of the home to another. These shafts fell out of favour some years back, mostly because of how much maintenance their manual pulley systems required. However, today's builders can create a dumbwaiter that works with a hydraulic lift and even electronics, for something more reliable. If you enjoy bringing food and other items to the second floor or have someone in the home with arthritis or balance issues, this can allow them to easily bring items to the second floor without any risk of a tripping hazard.

Herb garden in the kitchen

If you love cooking with fresh herbs but struggle to find space for them in the kitchen, have a herb garden designed into one wall. This vertical garden would include racks and pots for growing, and may even include a skylight overhead for healthy sunlight. Your designer can also include a watering system that circulates around the roots of the plants so you can grow them with a hydroponics mix, or might include a sprayer that is installed over the plants for easier watering.
